Experience Design at Blue Smoke

We went to Blue Smoke in lower Manhattan for an afternoon of BBQ and drinks.

I was pleasantly surprised to witness a subtle yet effective layout design of the restaurant that added to my experience above all others.
The decision by the architects to create unisex bathrooms (4 of them) instead of the traditional Mens / Ladies  washrooms. This told me two things. 1 – they are aware of the ubiquitous line that imminently forms for the ladies room. 2 they respect all of us, men and women to give us privacy as opposed to corralling like live stock.
In addition, the designers had the foresight to place a common washing are outside the bathrooms for patrons and workers to wash their hands – thus diverting such traffic from the washrooms.
High marks for usability and a great user experience.
